Kirk Douglas Celebrates Century on Dec. 9



Celebrated American Actor Kirk Douglas turns 100 years old this year, on Dec. 9, 2016. Mr. Douglas was born on Dec. 9, 1916 in Amsterdam, New York. Before changing his name to Kirk Douglas, the Hollywood icon's birth name was Issur Danielovitch.

Mr. Douglas is well-known not only as an actor and director of films, but also as an author. His long acting tenure began in 1946 with the film "Martha Ivers," opposite screen great Barbara Stanwyck. He went on to appear in literally hundreds of movies, just a few being "Dr. Strangelove," "Spartacus," "Gunfight at the OK Corral" and "Champion."

Mr. Douglas has been nominated for three Academy Awards during his career, and won an Honorary Academy Award for his body of work, in 1996.

Mr. Douglas has been married to the former Anne Budyens, since 1954. He is the father of four children, all sons: oldest Michael Douglas, also a film star in his own right; Joel; Peter; and Eric.
